Summoners really and good for summoning?
Hi, i started playing dofus last night and ever since diablo 2 i always liked playing as characters that can summon allies... but today i realised that the summoner can only control one summoned creature at a time (bummer) and that it looks like any other character can gain a summoning spell as well, at least thats the way it looks? It was non class magic so im assuming any other character can get it...
Is there much of a point in playing on as the summoner is there a much better character to start as? Im only level 9 so it doesnt bother me to start again. Also how do pets work? They look like good replacements but when they die do you need to buy a new one or can they be revived? Ps sorry about the typo in the title to those who notice grammar! It is your equipment that limits you. Once you level a bit, you will have access to items that give you +summons. On my Xelor, for example, I use items that allow me to summon three summons. Most Osamodas at higher levels have like 7-10 summons. So your summoner will become more powerful once you can use those items. One of the first you will get access to is the ring of the Farmer Set: Farmer Moth-Eaten Mittens

I should point out, that you do not get to "control" your summons. They do have a mind of their own, but you will gradually learn where to place them to get the maximum benefit from them.

All summons are quite useful now. I fought summoners in Dopple Territory the other week and they usually spam you with Tofus. Tofus now give -agility when they hit and they gave my Eni at some point -300 agility. That essentially means you can't dodge a tree in the forest. So even those basic summons have their uses. However, higher level summons do deal a lot more damage.

Ah ok, i'll just try maxing out all the summoning spells at some point and mix and match them with some offensive spells. Yeah i know you don't actually control them but i actually prefer it like that... already managed to get myself killed once because of a summoned goball (i think thats what its called... the second summoned creature) fighting a bunch of skeletons and getting in the way of my escape! Nevermind...
Thanks for your help everybody, see you in the game |

The gobball makes a great tank early on but I find the best spell to level for me was bear cry. Get it up to level 5 and it doesn't matter which creature you summon, you can add that on and you've increased their power anyways.
The gobball is good at tanking while the tofu is actually the best attacker. If you're far away, then try and avoid the enemy and just spam the tofu. When the enemies are close then you'll want to use a leveled gobball for defense. Once I was able to summon a boar I paid to remove levels from the gobball. There are so many spells I find useful in the Osa's arsenal that even at level 10X most of my summons are level 4 (except tofu and gob which are level 1). Also, you don't have to worry about which stats you put points in if you can get leek pie and a damage set (meaning you could save your points for after scrolling or just put them into vitality, and still easily do 20+ damage with leek pie or crow, which has easily been one of my favorite spells time and time again). Leek pie coupled with a damage/wisdom set will fix any character up so you don't have to spend any points at all for a long, long time. Basically, each summon is useful for various purposes. The red wyrmling is indeed powerful, but the most quirky of the bunch. It can either devastate all your enemies or hide behind you, depending on how much movement it has. You'll just have to watch them and learn how best to use them, and which ones work best for which tasks. And yes, it will suck when your summons run down lesser creatures and leave you to deal with the tougher monsters. xD |

Don't mean to start the question of tofu.vs.gobball, but I don't recommend leveling the tofu at all. It simply sucks at around 25, so why bother when its outdated so quickly? The gobball isn't great either, but at least it always goes for the target, blocking/ tanking, and is pretty predictable. Get a gobball hammer at first, maybe ( if you feel the need), you should get more+ summons. at your level, perhaps the best thing to do would be to build up a good base intelligence early on, if you use offensive spells, as when you get higher you level slower and slower. In answer to the pets, each pet has a max. and min. feeding time, and must be fed with food corresponding to that pet (bow meows/fish, bwaks/seeds, etc). Feeding them stops their health dropping. If they do die, you can always do the pet dungeon, which will allow you to resurrect them, but this can be an inconvenience. Perhaps get a ginger bow meow?(indestructible as it doesn't need feeding).
