Forum Rank Icons Fixed You've wondered about it, you've asked about it, but now, it's finally fixed!

Every poster should now have their own row of glossy little DOFUS egg icons to show their rank and dedication to the forums! The more you participate and discuss, the more icons you'll collect. Don't be afraid to ask questions or give good advice to others, but please don't spam!

While we're discussing the forums, what else would you like to see when you visit? I'd love to hear your opinions!

would be nice to have a variety of avatars available to us. obv not the same as mods and higher ups. but some monsters or npcs world be nice. or even different class avatars in different scenarios. for example. panda looking drunk or drinking some fine grog. or an xelor casting clock

I wouldn't mind a way for the Forum to indicate whether the player is currently playing/logged into Dofus (or is that already in?).

Thank you, thank you, thank you iz for answering and fixing my request. You really are working hard smile.gif

Another thing the French forums have that I didn't mention in my comment was that it shows if they've subscribed, previously subscribed, or never subscribed. That would be really nice to determine the background some of the posters are coming from.

Currently, if you want to see if you have a private message you need to click on My Settings first, which is a bit silly. More than once ive found myself with a PM from a week ago, replied to it, and the a week later the person who messaged me realized they had a PM. Would be nice if that was fixed.

I know it was working like I'd get a PM and then it would pop up but for some reason it just stopped.

Few things:

Can we unlock the Talk with the DOFUS Team,

Can we improve the user profile where sending comments is easier ? The current version is a bit difficult, if ya don't know what you're doing. (Like when you unselect said message being wrought, it seemingly disappears, (and reappears) if selected on 'send comment' again.

Oh, and I agree what Alyss-Sin had suggested. If it's not to much to ask. tongue.gif

All for now. Doing a GREAT job - Izmar!

Edit: I'd also like too see an option in the search menu where one can search for: high post count users.

And, will we be upgrading the forum avatars when 2.0 arrives ? And might we be brining back the system (that lagged the forum like mad) ...where when you logged off -- the system would recognize the users avatars when logging.

It should be an option to help prevent harassment or for people who are uncomfortable with this.

If I have my online stat thingy (whatever you want to call it) off basically I don't want people to know I'm online on dofus. You know what I'm saying right?

Trust me if anyone in the game could have a full ignore list it'd be Tgif. You should see our guild chat cracks me up sometimes. He'll be going off on some random schmoe and type half of it in the guild chat on accident. He's tons of fun to keep around but definitely could put enough people on ignore to fill it up.

speaking of participate and discuss I would like to know if any ideas, comments,or suggestions made on this forum actually ever reach Lichen or anyone else in the development team and if so would it be to much to ask that a comment be made on a thread acknowledging that someone in the development team actually read it. Even something as stupid as "Lichen saw this" as an example. The fact that Lichen will read and respond on the French forums but this one the attitude seems to be "who cares their not French we will take their money but listen to them why would we do that" whether that attitude is true or not it is the one projected by the lack of comment or response on these forums.

Ismar isn't a Mod, she's a Community Manager actually employed by Ankama. She has more "power" and better contact with Ankama. Mods have very little power outside the general "Forum-Police" role they volunteered for. They're not paid, and they're not based at Ankama. The only thing they can get anything "done" outside their ban/lock/merge/etc powers is via the Community Manager.

I'm liking the ideas you've all posted! I'm trying to work out an agreement with lichen about posting here on the English forums. He's a very busy dev with 2.0 coming out and hasn't even had time to post opinions on the French forums for about a month.

If this can happen at all - which I'm not promising it will - I hope you'll all be aware that it will be a very rare and special treat. Lichen does not usually post on communities outside of the French community, even though all of our DOFUS communities have great ideas that the developers love! Most of the developers speak little to no English or German or Spanish or Portuguese, or Italian, or any of the other many languages that DOFUS has been translated into. For them to take the time to learn them all and respond to each community individually, no player idea could ever make it into the game again!

This doesn't mean that your ideas aren't being heard by anyone at all! A big part of my job as your CCM is to bring your amazing ideas and opinions to the developers (an job that I love to do)! I'll do all that I can to give you back responses that I get to your ideas as long as our players keep what I'm about to say next in mind.

Many wonderful ideas that have been posted on this forum have made their way into the game, but it's often many months or even years after the original suggestion was made and not always exactly the way that the player who suggested it envisioned so there's a big gap between the suggestion and the developers' response.

One of the long-time favorite player suggestions "make it possible to change colors/names" will be part of the upcoming Ogrine services that Ankama is releasing. This was first suggested five years ago, but soon it'll finally be possible! Even if an idea isn't added to the game right away or given a specific response from a dev, that doesn't mean the developers dislike it or didn't hear it. Sometimes it takes a long while before the developers have a specific response to an idea!

I've written up a report with all your forum thoughts that I couldn't add to the forums on my own. With any luck we should see some of them appearing in the next few months. =)

First of all thanks for all the improvements. Official forum looks much better now and I hope it'll be able to attract more experienced players.

I believe, no one needs the response exactly from Lichen, but we do need some feedback. You know, you may write something like "I've translated and sent your idea to developers. Keep up with good work". And many people will be satisfied with it as majority of those who produce really good ideas are mature enough to understand that developers do not speak other languages than french and simply don't have time to answer every question.

The main problem with the suggestions and discussions on international forums is lost faith. People write the most stupid things excusing themselves with "No one reads it, no one cares what we do, what we suggest, what we complain about".

Also I'd be happy to see international Zone 48. I'm not sure if 4 of each class are really enough to be objective, but it's still better than the situation now with never-ending "Nerf, nerf, nerf" topics.

And I would like to suggest to divide servers' forums into 2 different sections: one for recruiting (guilds, dungeons, etc.) and one for trading only. It's really good we now have forums dedicated to servers but they can become messy very soon.

One other suggestion: is it possible to have a page on the website with the "DUT" displayed (real-time updating) for each of the servers (is it server specific?), and how it relates to a real-world time-zone (i.e. GMT+X). I'm not sure anyone sets their watch to DUT, and logging in seems long-winded in comparison.

It's pretty hard to organise yourself around events advertises with "DUT" time.

DUT is equal to GMT+1, it's the same for all Dofus servers. You can set the forum to display time in DUT (aka GMT+1) in your Board Settings.

At the top of the forum is Your Name in green. Next to your name is My Settings. Click that, then click "My Controls." "Board Settings" is in the column on the left side of the screen and the time zone menu is at the top when you click. At the moment, it works best to have Daylight Savings Time turned off.

It's more of a matter of clarity, and convenience then. I'm sure most people (who play Dofus) know DUT is GMT+1, but I think the most immediate reaction from newcomers is "There's a real timezone called DUT?"

Stick "DUT" in google and nothing related to Dofus comes up on the first page (or any page for a long while). Hey, DUT also stands for "Delta Universal Time" (whoops?). Stick in "DUT Dofus" and you get a bunch of forum posts (which thankfully do say it's GMT+1), and a fansite that says DUT is GMT+2 (whoops?).

You stick "GMT" in google and you get a website with a little javascript clock that ticks over each second, telling you what GMT time is right now.

I actually do live in GMT, so GMT+1 is really just 1 hour off my actual time. But it seems confusing to tell people "Oh, if you want to know what the time of this event is, you have to first remember the real timezone, then adjust it a second time to get your own time." I'm sure people enjoy maths, but is it that hard to have little ticker going for France time with the name scrubbed out and "Dofus Time" put in its place?

My forum settings are my timezone, not some fictional/French timezone. All the other clocks in my house tell me the time where I live. (BST isn't exactly helping either).

It's not explained in the Dofus Glossary either

I realize that the development team is busy trying to work out the bugs and finish the work on 2.0 it was not my intention that Lichen himself post here although it would be a good sign to the international community. I was rather hoping that you as CM could check and if the development team had read a idea, suggestion etc, you could simply post in the thread that Lichen had read it a simple "Lichen read this" to show that we are not being ignored. For years players here have made suggestions and had discussions but for all we knew we were not being heard and at times we seem to be simply forgotten.

I think if we have to have signatures, text only. Even if they're all the same, at least all the Ankama avatars are decent artwork. Seeing some people's "homemade" image-signatures is like looking at Xtreme Rainbow Vomit to the MaaaaxxxX. blink.gif More "official" Ankama avatars would be better (I like the idea of just the classes, but in multiple poses/different colours)

A number of posts in this thread aren't even 4 lines long... I don't think it's a good idea for signatures to be bigger than the actual post.

Now I just got a great idea! We could open some kind of Dofusian Ink, in which "employees" would create signatures for forum members, and they pay them in kamas. If that's allowed? :/

Blink tag?
A much criticised bit of HTML, which makes text blink on and off... like flicking the light-switch on and off rapidly. People thought it'd make websites more "fun" or some such, but in the end almost everyone finds it quite irritating (especially given how commonly overused it became on amateur websites).

Basically, a Dofus animation might be nice... but I don't think many people would want to see it every time they looked at the forum. And certainly not a whole bunch of them at the same time (ones which probably don't have a "uniform" appearance, making it look increasingly messy). Add on issues related to load-times for people on slow/limited connections, hosting issues, etc.. I don't see it working well. Animation can go in the Fanart section.

I don't see why would someone bother to download extra 250kb for seeing cute unique animation pic. Of course, not everyone would have same animation.

Oh, and about blink tag. Who actually said it looks nice? It's worse than marquee :/

Things I would like #1

If the forum wouldn't crash at all then my suggestion would have a feature like allowing us to customize our avatars and make it look like our characters like people did in this thread http://forum.dofus.com/en/spitting-bwork-t...ter-t79465.html that would be awesome.

Things I would like #2

Allowing the forum to indicate who's birthday it is on a certain day, when it's someone's birthday they get a fancy looking frame for the day ,like how mods have it gold or yellow when they post, exept in a different color and their displaying nickname would have a different color as well.

Someone told me (in game) that if they had this feature the forum would somehow crash, take note that this thought of forum crashing is not from me so I don't know how it would.
There are a number of technologies which could allow you to custom-pick your colours (.svg is one), but their uptake is a little low... except Flash. But it might be a bit costly on a machine to load X amount of Flash objects just for each forum portrait.

But if they just give us a number of pre-drawn variant colours on the current jpeg portraits there would be very little overheads compared to the current system.

Yeah, and with 20 posts on a page, that's 5000kb+ of animations (depending on what each animation entails and the file size) and that's not even counting the people that like to have 40 or 50 posts displayed per page! Ridiculously taxing on those that don't have lightning-speed internet.

I'd go for the different-colored predrawn .jpg's. We need a little more of a sense of uniqueness here, instead of everyone running around using the same 24 avatars ._.

Actually, you can use Flash to customise an avatar and then save it as png (I don't like jpg) for use on forum. There is no need for heavy animations on the forum itself. Check Dofus Avatar Creator tool it does exactly it (but saves in jpg).

Also to avoid animated gifs they can be just not allowed, forum engine supports limitations for uploaded files (size, dimensions, and formats).

So it's not that big problem to allow custom avatars, but it may ruin the uniform design of the forum.

That changes the issue.. instead of it being a problem to display the forum, it becomes a problem to store the portraits. 24 pngs balloons to 1 png per account, and they all have to be stored on the Ankama server (unless they allow cross-site storage).

Don't suppose the option to change ones forum name once every 60 days would be an option here...

Apologies, but because forum names are linked to DOFUS account names, this is not possible for technical reasons.

I think Simomate doesn't like the new arrangement of the Forum because everyone was more used to the old look. But everything needs a change, everybody's just getting used to it.

Off topic:
I noticed the new quote when failing a challenge... It's funny, like always rolleyes.gif

Usually there is no problem with storing avatars, they require less room than all other stuff produced on forums. If it was really a problem no forum hosted for free would allow uploading avatar, yet they do.

Generally, free forums do not have as large a community. Nor are the forums the "main product" (in the same way a service like MSN, etc is). Of course it's possible, but there is a money expense in terms of data storage, bandwidth etc.

Does that mean it's impossible to change your DOFUS account name?

Also, would it be possible to tweak the forum's spell-check so that Dofus related words (ie Dofus, Ankama, Kamas, ect.) don't show up as incorrect? It might help newer players spell such names correctly, since the wouldn't have to second guess the correct spelling when it shows up incorrect. This would also help the atmosphere, subtly, since most forum goers spend a lot of time drafting posts.

Spell check is built into a person's browser, not the site itself. Unless I'm somehow missing some really really unannounced/obscure feature.

Kiba is correct, spell check is built into your web browser. To add words to most browser spelling dictionaries, open up a new post, type the word, when the the red underline shows up, right click on the word and select "Add to dictionary."

Have fun! smile.gif

I'm not sure if these expenses can compete with expenses for game servers. In fact I think it's more a question of free will of Anakama than anything else.

Opening an application for players to become moderators because from the looks of it this forum could use more mods.

I haven't seen any problems that needed "more mods". The current ones seem on the ball enough to deal with anything that has warranted their attention.

Ideed the GM application would be a good tool; however, Izmar mentioned h/she would be looking into the Mentor project.

Spoiler : "(sélectionner le texte pour l'afficher)" could use an English fix (like what HarvestPale correcteed in our English subscription page awhile ago.) rolleyes.gif

And I hope you two are getting along well. No translation isssues I hope, (so to speak.)
