omg no magical orbs ... something cool and good. Just because some people are wis leeches and want to change, or changed their mind about what build they want to be and already used the dopple reset or cant kill the dopple and they're too lazy/cant do otomai quests doesn't mean everyone should get a magical orb for kwismas >.>

OMG yes magical orbs ... because they are cool and good. Just because some people were not affected by the crazy class changes doesn't mean that we should be forced to do dungeons no one cares about.

Izmar,
This week Lichen posted about his plans for the future of CC weapons and how it fits into his overall goals for the development of dofus. As always, changes to the status quo, particularly those that come strictly in the form of decreases in power, are feared. While lichen mentions that he intends to reduce the hit points of monsters and maintain the current balance of power and time for fights, my question follows: What steps will be taken by game developers to ensure that these changes actually accomplish that goal? I ask this question because it often appears as though the changes in the game are made with the best of intentions, the unforeseen consequences of which are often left to the players to deal with, often for years, until it becomes so large a problem that things must again be adjusted. My suggestion is simple: Do more than 1 iteration. Allow a beta testing team to OPTIMIZE themselves, characters, and their gear for a number of activities on both the current and proposed/beta servers. Time them. If it takes 30 minutes to do a particular fight currently, after the changes, they should still take 30 minutes. If it takes too long, change the changes. Then make sure that a non-optimized team fares as well under the same conditions. The last two rounds of monster adjustments obviously did not include multiple iterations or testing of this sort. Nearly every update has resulted in a reduction in the efficiency of certain strategies that were not compensated for. Lichen does make it sound like he intends to have a global tool available to make these adjustments, so it should be used carefully. Also, as a throwaway comment, a similar tool should be added for monster stat / base damage ratios. Greed is, in theory, likely to undergo a major change. Due to the way that certain monsters are built - some with incredibly high base damage and incredibly low stats, and others with the opposite, it is VERY likely that any change to greed will make it useless in some proportion of fights and useful in others. While there is some skill-testing and "game-play ability" involved in knowing when to use greed and when to avoid using it, there are too many monsters in the game to realistically suggest that every enutrof needs to remember every base damage of every monster attack. There should be a scaling tool, and they should be normalized when other changes (such as to greed) require. |
